Asia Argento is an Italian actress and film director who came from a large family of both. She has pursued these two professions her own. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento at the age of nine, was her debut film. In 1988, she portrayed the principal role in Cristina Comencini's first motion picture Zoo (1988), as well as being part of Michele's casting on The Church (1989). In 1989 she portrayed Nanni Moretti's daughter for the film Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) was the point at which Asia started to really become a household name. The film let her progress from the roles of young females to more sophisticated and mature characters. The film received a great reception in the Cannes International Film Festival. Trauma was her debut film created by her father. Her mother, Daria Nicoledi, is Argento's favorite actress. The film Trauma she portrayed an anorexic seeking her parents' murderer. The Phantom of the Opera The film, made in collaboration with her father who passed away The Phantom of the Opera is the third three films she's acted in. The other two were Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni used her absorbed and intense manner of acting in the film Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot and she had a role as the physically challenged girl in the movie. The year 1995 was the first time she starred with Michel Piccoli as Traveling Companion by Peter Del Monte. This part earned her an award from David di Donatello (for the most talented actor) and the Grolla in Oro. Asia started directing as profession in 1994. Her debut short film was Prospettive. The film she made about her dad was followed by Abel/Asia (1998) the film which won an award at the Rome Film Festival, were both produced between 1996 and 1998. Asia was the director of her first feature film Scarlet Diva (2000). It was a collaborative effort between Asia with screenwriter/actor Linda McArtney. The film was released on May 20, 2000, in Italy as well as the rest of world. It was awarded a special award by the Williamsburg Festival of Film in Brooklyn. Anna Lou, the first of two daughters she has was born in January of 2001. The year 2002 saw Asia on The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action thrille directed with Vin Diesel. Asia is the creator of a number of short stories that have been published in a variety of magazines.
